(He/Him)

Resident comic genius and illustrious owner of Dr Morse, Simon Morse began his exciting artistic career in America in the early 90s, creating comic art for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dark Horse Comics and Glenn Danzig’s ‘Verotik’ comic company. Upon returning to New Zealand, Simon continued to work in illustration, producing iconic art for local NZ brands including Illicit Clothing, Hell Pizza, and graphic design house, Inject Design. After a rewarding, challenging and intense 20 year period of illustration work, Simon found a new area in which to direct his talent and creative energies.

For Simon, moving into tattoo artistry over a decade ago was a natural progression from creating comic art. In 2012, he opened Dr Morse Tattoo studio making a creative environment and studio space teeming with art, toys, comics and bizarre knick-knacks, which provide colour, inspiration and excitement for studio artists and visitors alike.

The visual feast that is the Dr Morse Tattoo Studio reflects Simon’s own philosophies and personal approach to art. Simon loves to work with clients to create pieces that express their own ideas, passions and interests, in a collaborative process that encourages strong personal connections between clients and their new tattoos. Simon is especially fond of creating beautifully bright and colourful pieces, and equally at home working on black and grey tattoo art. All his designs carry an emotional depth and intensity that comes from Simon’s passion for his work and the people he feels priviledged to encounter through it.

Alongside tattooing in and directing the Dr Morse Tattoo studio, Simon still also loves to find time to create artwork for well-known Wellington brands, The Wellington Chocolate Factory and Panhead Custom Ales.

Simon loves the consultation process of working with clients to develop and add artistic touches to their ideas and imaginings.
